DIY Mad Hatter Costume

My son wanted to be the mad hatter. I love making costumes from old clothes and items around the house. I sewed a blouse to his hat, glued peacock feathers, a card with the size 10/6, hat pins and some orange ribbon to it. I made a pin cushion ring out of a ring pop with the same orange ribbon from the hat then added some pearl and ruby beads, silver drop heart charms to the base of the ring, and a couple of sewing pins. I cut up extra ribbons of purple, red of different sizes and sewed them to inside of his left pocket; on his right pocket I sewed a scarf. Another scarf as a pocket square. I used a scarf with hats that were the same as twiddle dee and twiddle dum's hats around his neck into a bow. A purple collared shirt and a pin stripe vest. Socks of different colors and stripes. and a sash with a wallet insert used to hold scissors. He also wore a blue wool coat with silver buttons and lace sewed onto the edges of the sleeves, I sewed a glove with no fingers and wrapped his right hand with silk red ribbon to match the bloodied ribbon that the hatter wore, pin stripe pants and brown high leather boots with red laces. Everything was based off of the Mad Hatter design from Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland". His wig was store bought and so was the makeup, but the wig was cut and brushed to stand out instead of flat. He is a Johnny Depp fan and we were just keeping with the theme, last year he was Tonto from the "Lone Ranger".
